A Blue-Sky Wedding Overlooking Boulder
Kaitlyn & Dion’s wedding day was a perfect blend of fun, emotion, and breathtaking Colorado scenery. We started the morning in downtown Boulder at the Embassy Suites, where Kaitlyn got ready alongside her mom and a few close friends. The energy was high — the kind of wedding morning filled with laughter, nerves, and champagne.
As Kaitlyn sat on the edge of the bed reading a letter and opening a gift from Dion, the light poured through the large windows — perfect soft morning light that set the tone for the day ahead.
Sunshine, Vows, and Flatiron Views
From there, we headed up to Sunrise Amphitheater — one of Boulder’s most iconic venues. Perched above the city, you get sweeping views of Boulder below, with the Flatirons rising dramatically in the distance. The clouds were scattered, but for most of the ceremony, the sun was full and bright — a challenge for shooting, but also an opportunity to create some incredibly bold and dynamic images.
Their ceremony was short but full of meaning. Just the two of them standing at the altar, exchanging vows in front of family and friends, with Boulder stretching out behind them.
Chautauqua Trails, Wildflowers, and Genuine Moments
After the ceremony, we wandered down one of the trails directly behind the amphitheater to capture portraits with the Flatirons as a backdrop. The full afternoon sun required some careful positioning, but with the right angles, we were able to create beautifully lit, impactful images that really highlighted the dramatic landscape around them.
The trail even offered us a few scattered wildflowers, which added a pop of color and depth to some of the portraits as I shot low to the ground with the mountains rising behind them.
A Connection That Photographed Itself
One of my favorite parts of Kaitlyn & Dion’s portraits was simply stepping back and letting them be themselves. They were a little nervous at first, but within minutes they settled into each other. Kaitlyn’s smile is contagious — you can’t help but smile when you see her — and Dion looks at her with so much love and softness. There was very little posing necessary. They giggled, teased, and soaked in every moment together, creating natural, heartfelt images full of feel-good energy.
The Celebration Continues
After portraits, we made our way down to Chautauqua Dining Hall for their reception — where friends, family, and great food capped off the day with an intimate, relaxed celebration.
